By BILL KEMP | LEDGER MEDIA GROUP
DUNDEE | Richard Tate has barely gotten his feet wet at George Jenkins and he's already bringing a trophy home to the school – and a very unique ball. George Jenkins shut out Ridge Community 25-0 in the inaugural Battle for the Ball 7-on-7 tournament Saturday at East Central Park in Dundee. And in doing so, the Eagles were presented a $500 check, the championship trophy and glass-encased football that has to been returned and played for next year like the NHL Stanley Cup. "It's big for Jenkins. If you look at the banners in the gym, football is blank," Tate said. "It's empty. And anything we can do to bring a win to it is good. We are going to display it with pride. I was pleased to get in this (tournament). … Polk County needs to hold bigger tournaments than they do." Full Story
